A College Coach is Not Responding -- What Should I Do?

So, you have taken the time out to email a list of your favorite schools and a coach is not being responsive. Unfortunately, coaches tend to get busy with multiple responsibilities throughout the year. Here are a couple things to consider:

1. When coaches are in season they are VERY busy. Coaches have a roster from 19-25 players all with specific situations. Depending on the program some coaches are also responsible for travel arrangements, meals, hotels, etc. 

Try to focus on emailing coaches in the Spring. January through the summer is what many coaches use as a recruiting period. College showcases are a great place to invite a coach because they will be able to see multiple players at an event. Some coaches simply do not have the budget to be able to go to see only one player.

2.  Make sure you are emailing the right contact person. At many programs the head coach is not the main contact person for new recruits. Oftentimes the assistant coach is the one who evaluates players before they reach the head coach. And just in case you were wondering, the head coach typically makes the final decision.

Coaches need direct information in order to know if you are a player worth pursuing. They are not looking for a long email detailing how much you love soccer. They want good, concise information that matters before they come out to watch you play.
